Footbridge

An ambitious project which is just starting to come together.

On our railway we feel we have laid all the track we can. Our attention is now turning towards finishings. The first major project on finishings is a footbridge.

Above - drawing compiled from the original CAD drawings.

The idea for a bridge came after building the stand for the Harrogate and Wembley shows. The stand was built from 3mm laser cut steel and angle iron. Having swung off it at Wembley I realised that this type of construction would be strong enough to take the weight of an adult or two.

Next followed on off development on the CAD to come up with a design. Basically it compiled of construction from 3mm laser panels, 6mm steel stair strings (sides) and andgle iron legs and frames.

Above - the first sections of the new footbridge in place. Eventually it will be painted red so it will stand out against the vegetation.

Above - the foundations. The base of the legs which will get buried in the ground were painted in underseal to stop them rusting.

Above - the view looking along the line.

While this footbridge is strong enough towalk over, the handrail height is low. This was deliberate and done for appearance rather than function. It would not be suitable for use by members of the public in a club situation.

If anyone is interested in buying one, drop me a line. Would need to work out prices. - possibly looking at figures around £1000 for all materials and laser cut components or £2400 for a ready to assemble kit.
