Saddle Tank History |
|---|
The saddle tank idea was thanks to Simon Pavitt.
Having been to the Nene Valley he sent me the following picures. Not really sure if the engine was for him or his daughter. -7/6/02.

Having received the pictures I set to
designing a body to fit on the Trojan chassis. The length
of the body and width of the cab were obviously
predetermined. The other fixed dimensions were the size of two car batteries. To make the body truely swappable it needed to accomodate all the components which fit under the shunter body. |
| Due to the complex nature the coal bunker it was dropped in favour of a simpler flat back. The smoke box door is created from flat 1mm steel as originally Simon's was going to have a face on it, as in the pictures. I thought by making it flat it would be easier to stick the face on. In the end I was surprised how good the effect was even without a face. | ![]() |

Left - The original CAD drawings. Not
very impressive looking but critical for dimensioning. I
decided that it would be easier to include the handrail
holes on the tank for two reasons -
Must have moved quick as order placed 9/6/02 |

22nd Sept - Derek Wheddon (left) and
Simon Pavitt brought brought their engines to our open
day. The steam dome on the left being a cap from a spray paint can and the chimney turned up by his son. Simon's blue body - see engine owners page |

Oct 02 - RoR body - Turned brass cast chimney (thanks to Simon for the casting) and a cut down spray paint can lid forming the steam dome. We are currently having resin chimneys cast which will be included in the body package. Influenced by Dereks body I have painted this one in matt black. Hopefuly transfers to follow. I have also slightly dished the smokebox door using a hammer.
