"On TV"

Short cut to index

ITV1 Saturday nights - new series called Home On Their Own.

Ride on Railways was asked by "Miniature Railway Supply Co Ltd" (MRSC)if they could help "Atlas Models and S Effects" who where building a railway for one of the episodes.

Home alone is now a series after a successful pilot episode which highlighted the wonderful imagination children have and the concequenses of having professionals help them fulfill their dreams and desires to improve their home.

Left - Loosely based on a pug, this is a non powered model built in plastic. The ketchup on the cab roof is a reminder for its intended use. The coal shovel on the foot plate is from Doug Hewson.

Right - the power for the train, which consisted of an engine and two coaches was given ba a wheel chair motos hidden in one of the coaches. Unlike ride on vehicles this was designed for very low top speeds.

One of the episodes involved building a railway from the kitchen to the lounge which would carry food and drinks. For this MRSC supplied rail, straight and curved for a 1.5m radius. Yes, Jeff Price can bend tight radius corners which is worth remembering if you want a rail ring for your turntable.

RoR supplied 5 bogies, buffer stops, signs and a couple of signals built from kits supplied by Doug Hewson. If you are into scale 5" gauge then I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Dougs site. - http://www.the-hewsons.demon.co.uk/index.htm

Left - one of the coach bodies made from laser cut plastic.

Not a railway engineers workshop - as can be seen by the head - bottom right. Chassis of one of the coaches with a heavily modified RoR bogies.

The poles to the rear are the internal supports for the coaches so they can carry the food.

Right - finally a model built by me (Paul) Couldn't really do justice to the kit but had a good stab at it. Ran out of time for putting in spectacle glass.

Apparently the line included knocking a hole through the wall to allow the train through. Well what did you expect with kids in control.

Atlas Models is a company which produces high quality models for museums, shows, exhibits etc. Another example of their work is the large clock in the sweet factory in the stage version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
