Signal Kit Instructions

Price may change if components are added to the kit.

Kit includes-

  • Signal arm
  • Signal mounting bracket
  • Counter balance arm + 2 weights
  • Counter balance arm mounting plate + bolts
  • Bottom crank

On real signals the counter weights are set to assist in pulling the arm down (allowing for failsafe should a cable snap). The diagram to the right shows the weights helping to balance the arm for those who are not going to cable up the signal

The signal arm is held in the mounting bracket by a 4 mm bolt. The arm can either pivot on the bolt or bolted tight and pivoted by the bolt.
Pull rods can be created using thick straight wire.

Measured from photographs the arm in the upright position is inclined at 24º.

To raise the arm the pull rod needs to be pulled down 10 mm. Adjustment to get the right position is done by moving the bolt stops either side of the counter balance pivot.

A 2-3 mm hole should be drilled 21 mm from the pivot hole this should give the right adjustment for the pull rod to the arm.

Optics should be red and blue. These can be made by pouring in coloured resin  with the arm placed on grease proof paper. (available from craft shops)
