— ABOUT US

A Passion

For Railways.

Havering Miniature Railway Club is a friendly community of volunteers dedicated to sharing our love of miniature railways with everyone.

Our Story

Keeping the railway tradition alive

Havering Miniature Railway Club is a friendly group of railway enthusiasts who own, maintain and operate the miniature railway in Lodge Farm Park, Romford.

Run by volunteers, the club brings together people with a shared interest in railways, engineering and keeping the tradition of miniature railways alive — while giving thousands of visitors the chance to enjoy the simple pleasure of a train ride through the park.

The locomotives and coaches you see on the railway are privately owned by individual members, who make them available for the club to operate on our public running days.

Our Railway

Small trains. A real railway.

Our railway is built to 7¼-inch gauge — the distance between the two rails.

Although miniature in scale, it is very much a working railway. The track, locomotives, rolling stock and associated infrastructure all need to be inspected, maintained and cared for just like their full-size counterparts.

7¼-inch gauge allows us to operate ground-level trains capable of safely carrying members of the public, making it possible for passengers of all ages to experience a genuine railway journey in miniature.

Behind the Railway

Powered by volunteers

There is much more to Havering Miniature Railway Club than driving trains on a Sunday afternoon.

Our members give their time to maintain the track, look after locomotives and rolling stock, prepare the railway for running days and welcome passengers when we open to the public.

The variety of locomotives within the club reflects the interests of our members. You might find traditional miniature railway locomotives running alongside models inspired by locomotives seen on today's mainline railway.

You don't need to own a locomotive — or arrive with years of railway experience — to become involved. The club is a place to learn new skills, share knowledge and enjoy the railway with like-minded people.

Keeping the Railway Running

Every journey supports the railway

Havering Miniature Railway Club is not a commercial railway.

The money received through passenger fares and donations goes back into running, maintaining and developing the railway.

Miniature railway equipment is expensive to build and maintain, and the club is extremely grateful to the individual members who allow their privately owned locomotives and rolling stock to be used for public running.

Every ticket bought and every donation made therefore plays a part in keeping trains running at Lodge Farm Park.

Life at the Railway

Running days are only part of club life

Behind the scenes there is always something happening: locomotive maintenance, engineering projects, track work, improvements around the railway and preparation for our next public running day.

We also welcome visiting railway enthusiasts with their own locomotives, subject to the club's operating procedures and requirements.

Whether you want to get hands-on, learn something new or simply spend time around trains, there are plenty of ways to become involved.
