How Did it Start.
The Havering Miniature Railway Club came
in to existence when a group of like minded individuals met up in the
Cafe at King Georges Park to form the Havering Miniature Railway club.
After asking Havering Council if we could build a railway in a Havering
Park we were introduced to the Friends of Raphael and Lodge Farm Park.
The support from the friends group has been fantastic and allowed us to purchase a coach and most importantly an engine shed. While financial support has been invaluable most importantly it has been the physical work that has allowed the railway to progress. Bear in mind that mostly the people operating the railway are the ones who have worked hard to install it.
As the railway required full planning permission a temporary railway was run to gauge the response from the public. From these couple of days the railway was well received and allowed us to carry on with our aims and objectives of getting the full railway installed.
The club is a not for profit organisation with membership open to all those aged 10 years and above. 10-14 year olds will need a parent/guardian accompaning them. We meet on Sundays and Wednesdays in the park at 10:30 every week and at the Lodge (Main Road) 19:30 every third Thursday of the month for a social/administration meeting.
- Construction of the line started in February 2016 with a formal ceremony of driving in a centre pin for the curves in the compound.
